4 Ways Insurance Producers Can Use Technology to Stay Motivated

Sometimes work isn’t easy. In fact, some days it can be downright brutal. 

I guess maybe that’s why they call it work? The day-to-day drudgery can sneak up on you and steal away your motivation. In the world of insurance sales, lack of motivation is fatal. After all, if you aren’t excited about insurance, how can you expect your clients to be? You have to be in the right frame of mind to convey your message effectively.

Remember the days when you were just excited to make that sale? I definitely do! I was just a green producer freshly licensed, reading up on insurance in my spare time. I had practiced my pitch. You might even say I was “pitch perfect.” Anyway, when that first person agreed with what I was saying and I sealed the deal; I thought, wow, someone actually listened to me! That was some feeling. You may not be able to recapture that “first sale” moment but there are some ways to help you stay motivated and get your juices flowing again. Some of the easiest ways I know of involve some great technology tools I will go into more detail about below.

1) Avoiding Brain Fog

Ever feel the need to recapture that brilliance you once seemed to possess? It somehow gets lost in the midst of that formidable brain fog that seems to be hovering over your head. Don’t feel alone. It happens to the best insurance producers, so why should you be an exception? While I can’t promise a miracle, one effective way I found to increase my mental clarity and focus is to remember a specific message I created to keep me on my toes and motivate me for the day. You can create your own “recipe” and send yourself a motivational quote each day and get yourself pumped up through app services such as IFTTT. Nothing like starting off your day with a terrific mindset!

2) Be There Even When You’re Not

Nothing kills your motivation like being overworked and stressed. There just aren’t enough hours in the day, it seems. If you feel like you need to clone yourself to be several places at once, there might be a solution. It may just take a little pre-planning on your part. If you happen to use Gmail for your business email, you can use Boomerang. With Boomerang, you can create an email and schedule it to be sent at a later time. So, say you are going to be gone on a business meeting or perhaps on vacation…you can still reach out to those important contacts by email as if you were sitting right in front of your desk. You could even schedule it to email your boss at 6:00 a.m. to make him think you are already busy at work, although this one might be a bit tricky—especially if your boss usually gets to work before you do. On the social media side, Buffer can do the same thing for you, scheduling posts for you throughout the day while you are on to more important things, like a golf game perhaps?

3) The Devil is in the Detail

Not a detail oriented person? Remembering something like a client’s birthday can not only make someone’s day but it can be the factor that helps you edge out your competition and sell that policy. As Coach John Wooden so aptly once put it, “It’s the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen.” Your brain just doesn’t seem to contain enough space to hold all of these minute but critical details.

So what can you do to help? How about an app that never lets you forget a client’s birthday again? CleverCards is compatible with both the iPhone and iPad and can sync with your Facebook profile and create a custom birthday card which you can print and mail or send by email. This app also takes care of remembering other events such as an anniversary party or a retirement celebration.

4) Don’t Let that Sale Slip Away

Missed opportunities are definitely one of the worst motivation killers for an insurance producer. CRM Management tools can give you the ability to centralize customer information and have this data available right at your fingertips. Instead of letting clients slip through your fingertips, you can have the ability to track leads all the way from the first meeting to the final sale. Get organized and you will not only succeed in selling insurance, but you will thrive and excel. Nothing is more motivational than success!

There is no magic motivation pill for you to take to help you keep your internal drive going and restore your passion to sell insurance if you seem to have temporarily misplaced it. However, utilizing available technology can keep your work life simpler, improve your mental clarity, and help keep you prepared to make that next big sale.
