 Digital Insurer Blog

Today we’re taking a look at some of the coolest apps out there for producers, managers, and principles in the agency space—and finding that there’s a lot to be excited about in making yourself more productive and effective in engaging with your customers!

The Driver behind the Shift to Apps

Many insurance agencies have come to realize that They too are not immune from the disruption that technology can bring. But in this era of “always-on” availability and the desire to be connected, keeping up with and using smart technology is not just good for your business, it’s a necessity. "Mobile technology can help save money, mitigate risk, and increase productivity” according to the Frost and Sullivan White Paper, Using Mobile Solutions to Improve Insurance Sector Performance. And while that may sound pretty basic, the truth is that often times we need to be sold that technology is really going to pay dividends for us, not just clutter up our screens.

And of course, more and more consumers turn to smart phones and mobile devices to search for information and to check out companies with which they want to do business. This trend also includes how they evaluate and purchase insurance products and services. Approximately 64 percent of adults in America have smart phones, according to a Pew Research Center report. It's vital for your agency to be proactive in connecting with these technology-based consumers and stand out as a forward-thinking business. Below are five apps that can help modernize your agency and start your journey as a digital insurer!

1. Slack: Work Across your Team in Real Time

With producers, CSR’s, and principles often in different places, collaborating across teams can be a challenge to say the least. With policies, claims, and renewals all crossing people, teams, and versions, keeping track of where things stand can be a challenge. Our team has started adopting Slack(along with thousands of others!) as an easy way to keep track of where projects stand, to communicate quickly when we’re out of the office, to communicate across teams or directly with one person, and to ensure everyone knows what’s happening. In a world where clients want instant responses when a policy claim is on the line, working as a team in real time can make all the difference between a renewal and a cancellation.

2. Dragon Dictation: From Notes to Text

Your insurance industry personnel are often in the field where note-taking can be restrictive. One interesting app on the market to help remedy this is Dragon Dictation .This app transcribes a verbal message into text for ease in editing and distribution to other staff members. Download this app to help staff easily capture field notes, and share them across the team. Producers might find this especially helpful to record meetings with prospective customers

3. Appointfix: Keeping Appointments

Some clients or potential clients tend to forget scheduled appointments (shocking, I know!). Thanks to certain apps, technology equipped clients are reminded about appointments without a single phone call.Appointfix is one such app. This app uses automated reminders to help reduce your appointment cancellations and no shows. Once set up on a mobile device, reminders are sent to your clients via texts. It’s an easy and modern way to communicate with your customers in a fairly non-evasive manner.

4. Hipchat: Colleague Connections

A distributed team environment calls for modern and easy team communications. An app that allows easy conversations without conference calls is a modern way for your business group to stay in touch. The Hipchat app is built to enable real-time communications with easy access by your team members on the go—across the city or across the state.

5. LinkedIn Pulse: Staying in the Know

Knowing what's going on in the world is important for all agencies and employees. Because agents are often on the go, keep them in the know with apps that provide valuable news and industry information. Surprisingly, an app for that is LinkedIn Pulse. This app provides users with tailored news feeds. Agents can download the app and select specific feeds according to preference, targeting the industry, customers, and topics that are most meaningful to your customers and prospects.

And we're only scratching the surface! Using technology to automate standard insurance processes positively impacts the bottom line. Outfitting agency staff with certain apps is a step towards modernization. Doing so allows your staff to connect with tech savvy clients, increasing business opportunities and consumer loyalty. For the sake of client privacy and security, make sure you select apps from reputable sources and don’t be afraid to try on lots of different apps until you find the one that’s right for you.Your first choice might not be your best one, but these five apps will definitely get you started down the path!
