A go-to-market expert sees AgencyOne driving efficiency

David Kallman talks about how AI and technology integration are reshaping insurance

Get to know our experts. This series of blogs discusses how Vertafore leaders work for our customers.

As VP, go-to-market, David Kallman makes sure our customers know about the latest releases from Vertafore.

He’s currently helping customers adopt AgencyOne, the insurance software integration platform that connects Vertafore solutions across an agency. The platform launched in late 2024, and interested customers can now use it to work more efficiently, access information more quickly, and make data-driven decisions.

Read on for David’s thoughts on the future of connected insurance agencies and how early adopters are already putting AgencyOne to work.

AI and integration platforms are changing insurance

David had a full career in tech before joining Vertafore. The biggest surprise to him about insurance is how fast the industry is evolving, especially in integrating technology.

Despite its reputation for being risk-averse, the insurance industry has been steadily embracing digital tools. David says he’s seen our customers go through the transformation at “an impressive pace.”

They're ready for AI and automation, too. “AI is changing everything about what we do,” David says. “I find myself using AI pretty much every day for something both personally and professionally, and it's so helpful. We’re seeing that our customers have this desire, and they're being very vocal about wanting to adopt these things and build efficiencies.”

Integration is leading digital transformation

However, navigating that digital transformation is one of the greatest challenges insurance agencies face. Their clients expect modern user experiences. Insurance brokers want to provide that but need to update legacy systems. David says this can happen by leveraging technology integration to connect agency systems and provide a modern UX for clients.

“AgencyOne is taking all of our best-of-breed individual products that are known out in the market and pulling them into one integrated platform through one of our two pillars we call ‘One Experience,’” he says.

We're laser-focused on delivering that digital experience to our customers and giving them what they need right at their fingertips. People want information, they want it immediately, and they want it where they're working.”

Leading agencies use business software solutions

Vertafore’s most successful customers are getting ahead by using advanced business software solutions. Agencies that have already put AgencyOne to work see two big benefits: increasing their efficiency and, as a result, improving customer satisfaction. David says just two examples of AgencyOne improving efficiency are in agency management and sales automation.

“Agency management is about streamlining all aspects of operations. Where can we build efficiencies? How can we eliminate things like duplicate data entry and streamline workflows?” he says. “And through sales automation, they are able to fuel more and more growth for themselves, their businesses drive up revenue, and everybody's happy.

“We have these customers that are really at the forefront. They are leveraging those types of tools, and the benefits they're seeing from relying on our solutions to help them grow are really amazing.”

AI integration will change insurance

These tools show where connected agencies thrive. Five years from now, AI will be integrated into the places people already work. AI has the power to remove repetitive tasks from day-to-day agency work. It can automate many activities that are essential but don’t reach the highest value that staff can provide.

I think in five years we're going to see the elimination of a lot of that ‘busy work’ to get those efficiencies higher and higher, streamline everything, and then just make people's lives easier,”

“Right now, when I want to use AI to help me plan a trip—that's one of my go-to use cases for AI in my personal life—it's the swivel chair thing: I'm having to go somewhere else,” he says. “What I think is going to happen in this industry five years from now, is it's going to be giving that type of artificial intelligence right in the creation of things from scratch, directly where our customers are doing those activities.”

Five questions with David

David answered questions about his time outside of work.

My first job:
My first job was in an ice cream parlor. I started working when I was 14, and I eventually got managerial responsibilities as a young teenager.

The show I would see again:
20 years ago, or so, I got to see The Shins at a very small venue in Nashville. That still ranks as my best concert experience of all time.

The one book I recommend:
100 Years of Solitude. I've read it a few times, and I get something new out of it on every rereading.

I try to get first editions of books that I really love, but the challenge is first editions of 100 Years of Solitude are running in the $10,000 range, so I've got a lot of saving to do for that one.

My favorite insurance mascot:
I like animals in general, so I’m going to say either the GEICO Gecko or the Liberty Mutual emu.

My TED talk topic:
Pickleball. It has so many great benefits. It's good exercise and it's extremely social.

When I moved to Denver in 2017, I didn't know a single person. I've been lucky to make a lot of friends through various means and channels. But I picked up pickleball about two years ago, and I've made just so may friends through that one channel alone.
