Insurance and Legislation – Big “I” Legislation Conference Goes Virtual
Doug Mohr, VP of Industry Relations and Partnerships at Vertafore interviews Charles Symington, SVP of External, Industry & Government Affairs for the Big "I", to learn what they do for agents and how they are involved in government affairs.
They talk about what the Big "I" does for the independent agent on a legislative level, what their work looks like in Washington D.C., and what legislation was the biggest priority for the Big "I" last year, including:
- Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA)
- National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)
- Cadillac Tax (a premium tax on employer-provided healthcare benefits)
Prior to that in 2018 the Big "I" was instrumental in the tax benefits from the IRS for insurance agencies and brokerages who are organized as pass-through entities can fully benefit from a new tax deduction initiated by the Trump administration.
The Big “I” (IIABA) has a Legislative Conference, May 12-15, which is a great way to learn about how state and national governments impact insurance. This year, all of us have a unique opportunity to attend as it has changed to a virtual format due to the COVID-19 crisis and social distancing guidelines.
You can register for the event directly on the Big "I" website.
